I've fullfilled a lifelong dream by opening this camp and sharing it
with all of my many new and old friends, it truly is a special place.
However I don't consider myself "the owner", in reality I'm simply the
caretaker of the resource. As caretaker it's incumbent upon myself to
make sure the resource doesn't get depleted and is there for future
generations to enjoy.
To that end I would ask that all of my friends and guests observe a 100%
no kill policy on all pike. I believe this is the only way to ensure the
quality of the experience. In addition proper handling of these
magnificent fish is imperative. I've provided each boat with a landing
cradle to help assist in the handling of larger fish. Please try to keep
the fish in the cradle at boatside while unhooking. Wire cutters, long
nosed pliers and jaw spreaders are essential tools for a quick a safe
release. If the hooks are burried too deeply please utilize wire cutters
to quickly cut your hooks and remove the lure. When your partner is
ready with the camera quickly lift the fish for a photo being very
careful to support the fish underneath as well. Vertical holds can
damage internal organs! Please use a glove as well when hoisting the
fish in the boat for a photo. Your grip will be enhanced and the risk of
dropping these large, strong fish in the boat will be minimized. Return
the fish as quickly as possible to water to be revived. If they seem
particularly weak utilize the cradle until their strength has returned.
If everyone uses these handling techniques it's my hope that most of the
delayed mortality caused by improper handling will be eliminated.
Eat as many walleye as you wish 18" or under while you're staying at the
camp, but none fly out with you.
The area abounds with moose and I'll be working closely with area
biologists to determine a safe and healthy number of animals to be
harvested each year. My goal is to maintain the current vibrant levels
of game and that will mean a finite number of hunters permitted to
harvest animals each year.
It's my hope that all current and future guests will endorse my
conservation policy with open arms. It is after all in everyone's best
interest.
I look forward to sharing this magical spot on our globe with you.
Sincerely yours,
Eddie Guergis
